Nutrition Education Programs

The Jackson County Cooperative Extension Service has an Expanded Food & Nutrition Education Program that teaches families on a one-on-one basis and in small groups by a paraprofessional called Extension Assistants.  The assistant works primarily with low-income families who have children in their home.  EFNEP assistants help families and youth improve their diet through education and better use of their resources.  Progress is measured every six months by recording a 24-hour food intake recall  for participants.  The percentage of homemakers eating a balanced diet was more than doubled upon completion of 13 to 16 months in the program.

For more information about the Expanded Food & Nutrition Education Program or nutrition information, contact Jenny Yarbrough or Cathy Howell at the Jackson County Extension Service by calling 287-7693.
